Cannington Veterinary Hospital - Easter Egg

Wishing Our Clients a Happy and Safe Easter

It feels like Christmas has only just begun to fade and now Easter is on our doorstep. With some extra days off and mild weather, this is a lovely time of year to enjoy the outdoors with your pets. We hope all our Cannington Veterinary Hospital clients and their pets have a safe and happy Easter break. Remember, dogs are renowned for finding Easter eggs and what starts as a delicious treat can end up causing some serious problems. The problem is, dogs are not able to metabolise theobromine, a derivative of caffeine found in chocolate. Ingestion can lead to an increased heart rate, vomiting, diarrhoea, agitation, tremors, seizures and even death. Cooking and dark chocolate are the most toxic but ingestion of ANY chocolate can be a problem.

Please phone us immediately, even if you only think your dog has ingested chocolate. We will give you the best advice.

If you should need our veterinary services over the Easter weekend these are our hours:

Good Friday: Closed

Easter Saturday: 9am-4pm

Easter Sunday: 10am-12noon

Easter Monday: Closed

When we are not available there are several emergency centres in Perth including Murdoch University Animal Hospital ph: 1300 652494 and WAVES (WA Veterinary Emergency and Specialty located in Success) phone: 9412 5700.
