Our caring and skilled staff members are passionate about providing the best service for you and your pet.

Dr Trevor Cooper

Practice Manager/Veterinarian

Dr Trevor Cooper, pictured with his dog “Storm”, graduated from Murdoch University in 1985. Trevor worked in several small animal hospitals both in Perth and in England before going into practice together with Dr Alan Kelly in 1999. Trevor has a special interest in senior pet health and ophthalmology.  Storm sadly passed away mid 2018, but just a few months later the family adopted another geriatric dog called Special and still have two old cats called April and Ashley.

Dr Alan Kelly

Practice Manager/Veterinarian

Dr Alan Kelly graduated from Murdoch University in 1985 and worked in various small animal hospitals before working at Cannington Veterinary Hospital. In 1999 Alan and Dr Trevor Cooper bought the clinic together after the previous owner retired and they have kept the excellent service and veterinary care going.  After 20 years of ownership Dr. Kelly has recently semi retired and will just be working some Saturday mornings and filling in for other vets on holidays.

Dr Kim McCleary

Dr Kim McCleary, pictured with her dog Frank, graduated from Murdoch University in 2003 and has been with us since 2004. Kim has a special interest in surgery and feline medicine. She also loves Kelpies! Kim loves spending time with Frank at the dog beach and working together sheep herding.

Dr. Tara Valentine

Dr. Tara graduated from Murdoch University in 2014. Since then she has worked in the United Kingdom and various locum jobs in Perth before taking a full time position at Cannington Veterinary Hospital in 2018.  Tara enjoys performing surgery and has an interest in animal welfare. Tara loves dog walking at South Beach with her whippet Adira. She also has a cat named Pepper who she raised after being brought into her clinic as a tiny kitten.

Dr Kirsten Underwood

Dr Kirsten Underwood began working at Cannington Veterinary Hospital after graduating from Murdoch University in 1995 but her full time job now is with South Metropolitan Tafe Bentley as an instructor and coordinator of veterinary nursing traineeships. Kirsten has a special interest in dermatology and small furry pets such as rabbits and ferrets. Kirsten currently does some Saturday morning shift.

Registered Veterinary Nurse/ Administrative Assistant/ Reception

Valerie has been working at Cannington Veterinary Hospital since 1973! She has taken time off to raise a family but has always returned to her passion of Veterinary Nursing. Valerie gained her Veterinary Nursing qualification and registration in 2006. Valerie has a labrador named “Dylan” and two cats named “Merlin” and “Roxanne”.

Valerie enjoys spending one on one time with the patients – the most rewarding part of Valerie’s role here is seeing a patient recover and go home!

Registered Veterinary Nurse/ Reception

Tahnee qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2006 after previously studying Animal Care. Tahnee has a special interest in caring for young orphaned or injured animals until they are able to find homes of their own. Tahnee also has many pets of her own including three dogs and three cats. The most rewarding part of Tahnee’s job is knowing that she has made a positive difference each day to an animal’s life. Tahnee also assists with the monthly email newsletter and website management.

Registered Veterinary Nurse/ Reception

Emma qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2014 after completing her clinical work placement here. Emma rejoined the Cannington Veterinary Hospital team in 2017. Emma has a keen interest in dog behaviour and has skills in administration through experience in previous careers. Shortly after starting work here Emma rescued a stray dog named “Ollie”  when he arrived at Cannington Veterinary Hospital in need of some TLC. Emma fell in love with him instantly and very fortunately welcomed him into her home.
