Frankie Lead Vet at Cannington

Q&A with our Lead Vet, Dr. Frankie

Get to know our resident Lead Vet, Dr. Frankie – what she loves about working with animals and the advice she wishes every pet owner knew.

1. What inspired you to become a vet?

Growing up, dogs were always an important part of my family. Our family dog, Billie, sadly passed away from heart failure, but her end-of-life consult was such a gift. The vet made her final moments so peaceful and special, and that experience inspired me to pursue veterinary medicine so I could provide that same quality of care to other families and their companions.

2. What’s one piece of advice you’d give every pet owner?

Trust your gut. You know your pet better than anyone, and if something feels “off” or they’re “just not themselves,” it’s always worth getting them checked. I always recommend owners take out medical pet insurance to ensure a gold standard of care for their pet, as having insurance can help avoid difficult, cost-based decisions.

3. What’s your favourite part of the day in-clinic?

I love being busy, and I especially enjoy surgery. It’s incredibly rewarding to be able to directly help a patient and see the positive impact of what we do.

4. Do you have any pets of your own?

Not at the moment. My children are very eager to welcome a golden retriever into the family, so hopefully in the near future!

5. What’s your favourite way to unwind after work?

I enjoy spending quiet time with my family—playing with my children in the pool and watching the sunset on our nearby beach.
